SUMS Workshop on Academic Workload Software
SUMS continues to work with members on academic workload planning. Up till now these assignments have focused on process and model and advised developing the model in simple in-house software as a first stage.
A recent assignment showed that increasing student number volatility in conjunction with tightening budgets is making workload allocation a more difficult task and current in-house software is not developing fast enough to meet this challenge.
Commercial software for workload planning is now available and universities should be thinking about moving functionality out of in-house software into commercial packages that are in the cloud.
This seminar provided an opportunity for Members to:
- Learn Lessons from a pioneer of academic workload modelling in UWE
- Understand the differences between the two market leaders in this field namely Simitive and Strenton software who will showcase their products along with case study examples
- Network with other universities as to good practice in developing this area.
