Professional Development Support

It can be tough, in a senior management role, to find the right people to approach for development advice, or even just to discuss new ideas and approaches. This can be especially so in the first year of taking on a new job.  Good professional development support (PDS) can help make an individual – and the service they lead.


To help tackle these issues, SUMS is offering a new PDS Service to our Members. Through regular face-to-face sessions, backed up by telephone guidance, we will help work through ideas, questions or concerns.  Our consultants are able to offer a rich variety of skills and experience, to help clients meet challenges such as organisational restructuring, understanding unfamiliar aspects of their role, or how to manage time, staff and resources effectively.


Professional Development Support Package


The service will deliver a package of support that will be tailored to suit individual needs, but will typically include:

 

    • Initial meeting to identify needs and introduce our approach and methodology 
    • Further face-to-face sessions: typically four around 6 weeks apart. These can be undertaken by telephone/Skype if preferred
    • Telephone support between meetings 
    • Personal self-development plan by the end of the sessions
    • Developmental follow up meeting, six months after the end of the sessions.

Our Service is designed for senior managers. We can help and support staff who have recently joined a university, been promoted internally to a new role or someone just seeking some reassurance, inspiration or support in meeting the challenges of working in a senior role in higher education. We can provide support to both academic and professional services staff.

 

This service can be delivered as a SUMS assignment. We would put together a tailored delivery package that would usually be worth five days of your membership allocation or alternatively we can provide the service as an additional service and charge a day rate: the package would typically be charged at £4,000 per person.
